Before the printing workshop I was not happy with my prints, but after using the workflow you showed us the difference in my prints is huge. I've been on other Photoshop courses but yours had that special link with the creation of a perfect print which makes it so much more meaningful. As always after time on your courses I've come home rejuvenated and stimulated.

WHO IS THE WORKSHOP DESIGNED FOR?

This workshop is designed for digital landscape photographers who want to develop an understanding for how digital printing can be enjoyed as a rewarding craft rather than purely a time-consuming mix of science and technology. The subjects covered will appeal to photographers who wish to create an exhibition-standard colour print that is faithful to how they visualised the scene when out on location, but want to avoid a steep learning curve and long periods sat at the computer.

While explaining why a calibrated monitor is crucial, tutor Garry Brannigan then goes on to demonstrate a workflow using Adobe Photoshop CS4 that will help photographers to eventually create a successful print that does more than simply match what they see on the screen. Each photographer on the workshop will also receive step-by-step course notes that will be a helpful reference later.

This classroom-based workshop will also be beneficial to photographers who use Photoshop Elements and are considering a switch to the full version of Photoshop. Please note that tuition does not cover Adobe Lightroom, black and white printing or HDR photography.

SUBJECTS COVERED IN THE WORKSHOP

      • Pre-visualising the final colour print while out on location.
      • Why good technique in the field leads to a better print.
      • Understanding how the histogram influences print quality.
      • Colour calibration.
      • Selecting a designated colour space.
      • Why shooting RAW is crucial.
      • Fine tuning white balance and converting a RAW image.
      • Using adjustment layers.
      • The vital role of Curves.
      • Reasons for creating a master file.
      • Cloning, cropping and cleaning an image.
      • Understanding image size and resolution.
      • Sharpening for printing.
      • Colour proofing.
      • Fine art papers and printer profiles.

The workshop is led by Garry Brannigan and limited to five photographers. It is the small group and individual nature of Garry's tuition that has made him one of the country's most popular instructors of landscape photography.
