I have to take my hat off to you Garry as this week in Ullapool has again highlighted for me how much time, effort, consideration and determination you give to your courses. In particular how much time you dedicate to researching locations for all weathers, conditions, lighting and times of day. You seem to know just where to take us to make the most of whatever weather and lighting we get and that must have taken a vast amount of your time in a location such as Inverpolly. I really appreciate this aspect that you bring to your courses.
JILL EASTHAM, Ullapool, November 2011 after her sixth course.
The course was undoubtedly value for money. This was my second and I have signed up for a third, which speaks for itself.
DAVID FARRAR, Isle of Skye, September 2011 after his second course.
I wanted to say a huge thank you for the past few days. I have learned such a lot and have been filled with enthusiasm. Thanks again for being supportive and giving me the confidence and belief that I have the potential to produce some good images.
DEBBIE BRUCE, Lake District, November 2011 after her second course.
Just a quick note to say 'thank you' for your patience again last week. I really feel as if I learned a great deal on this workshop. By the end of our time together, some of the mysteries of composition were finally becoming clearer, and the exposure and focusing side had also improved. I also came to understand much more about how the RAW image could be used to re-create what the camera had actually recorded, rather than what the JPeg was showing.
MARGARET BURRELL, Lake District, November 2011 after her fourth course.
The locations were expertly chosen. In particular, Garry's extensive knowledge and experience of Skye's weather meant that he had what seemed to be a sixth sense as to which of his portfolio of locations would work at any given time. The location of the accommodation was also one of the particular highlights. To stay in such an iconic hotel in the heart of some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Britain was an absolute treat. When one considers the accommodation, the food, the travel, the expert tuition and the small-group size, this course was a comparative bargain.
RICHARD WALLER, Isle of Skye, September 2011 after his third course.
I very much like there being only five photographers on the course. I really appreciate the individual attention you give to each person and the way in which you encourage everyone's unique eye on the landscape. I also find it immensely helpful that you are prepared to say not only when an image has worked and why but also when you feel it hasn't, and why. This feedback has been invaluable in the development of my own photographic eye. I have come away from this latest course inspired and with an increased confidence in my own image making.
BARBARA SELLARS, Lake District, November 2011, after her fifth course.
I have enjoyed all of your courses, but without doubt the Ullapool one has been the best (so far). The locations you have found are stunning as landscapes and both interesting and challenging for photography. I enjoy your style of tuition: whatever level someone has reached you can find a helpful and friendly way to show them how to improve. But it is the atmosphere you are able to create in the courses that make them feel just like a group of friends sharing their passion for their hobby and this is the reason so many of us sign up for more.
WILL THOMPSON, Ullapool, February 2011 after his fifth course.
There are so many things I like about your courses, it's hard to know where to start. The fact that there are only five people. The gentle way you impart your knowledge, and your generosity in sharing everything you know with us. The way that everything is relaxed yet we don't seem to stop for the whole time we are there.
LESLEY PEATFIELD, Lake District, November 2011 after her third course.
Thank you for a great course in Swaledale. I enjoyed every minute of it. This was my second course and I feel I always come away learning so much. Your courses are so well organised and I would change nothing.
KEN WELDON, Yorkshire Dales, July 2011 after his second course.
I wanted to thank you again for yet another excellent course. There is no doubt that your courses are the best I have been on. I think this one was probably my favourite so far because of the wonderful Skye scenery and, of course, your patience and excellent advice. Thanks so much for the print. It was a lovely surprise and I will be finding a place on my wall for it. It has impressed everyone!
MARGARET MARTIN, Isle of Skye, October 2011 after her fourth course.
I have terrific memories of the course. As a veteran of nine workshops now, I have enjoyed and benefitted from this one with the you the most of all. Never too late to learn!
ROBERT CASSEN, Ullapool, November 2011 after his second course.
I'd like to thank you for a week I'll always remember. I was captivated by the Skye landscape and I thoroughly enjoyed every day. Thank you also for all your patience and hard work in making what was a potentially very difficult week with the Skye weather into a most successful one. All your careful planning and knowledge of locations does not go unnoticed.
ELEANOR COATE, Isle of Skye, October 2011.
I felt the course was good value for money, especially the hours put in by Garry Brannigan and the standard of the accommodation.
ANDY LANE, Yorkshire Dales, September 2011 after his first course.
Just to say a huge thank you for the course. I learned masses and had a very entertaining time as well. When I arrived home and showed my husband my print, he said: "Did you really do that, it is just wonderful," so praise indeed. Looking forward to getting out next week and practising my new skills. I thought that the whole structure of the course was excellent and it was without doubt a wonderful experience.
JACKIE SMART, Yorkshire Dales, September 2011 after her first course.
This advanced course was the perfect follow-on to the first course I did. There was a good selection of locations, appropriate for the conditions of the Skye microclimate. Having the back-up alternative plans meant there were always options for when the weather changed.
HOWARD KLEIN, Isle of Skye, September 2011 after his second course.
I had a fabulous time again and really enjoyed the locations. I love your teaching style, and encouragement. I always arrive home knackered but highly motivated to do more. But the best thing is how I feel my photography has improved over the years I have been coming on your Digital Dawn courses, so thank you for that.
DEE SCHADE, Yorkshire Dales, July 2011 after her fourth course.
I really shouldn't say this: the course was more than value for money. If you compare similar courses and workshops, as I have, you will find that the Digital Dawn pricing is one of the most reasonably priced, and having experienced one other photography workshop, the Digital Dawn is by far the more superior.
TERRY WAITING, Yorkshire Dales, July 2011 after his second course.
I can't really express how much I enjoyed the week, it was definitely the best experience I've had with you, and it also speaks volumes about the group too. As always, I have learned an awful lot in a short time.
CHRISTIAAN PARTRIDGE, Yorkshire Dales, June 2011 after his fifth course.
Your tuition met my needs very well. Even though I now have a better knowledge of my camera and am concentrating more on composition and the artistic side of photography, you still manage to identify improvements to my technique and ways of getting the best out of my equipment whilst encouraging my artistic development. Your decision to continue to restrict numbers to just five photographers and give them your undivided attention for the duration of the course is priceless. It makes your courses great value for money.
MARGARET HARDING, Wildflower Workshop, Swaledale, May 2011 after her fifth course.
I do believe that you have taken me to a new level of understanding about the world we live in and what beauty it can produce. I loved the course, your tuition and the company it produced. I cannot wait until the next one.
PETER CLAYTON, Northumberland, June 2011 after his first course.
You always manage to come up with some wonderful locations for us, off the beaten track and away from the 'place your tripod here' views, that we may not find for ourselves. As with the previous course, I went home reinvigorated and with new ideas to try.
SUE BISHOP, Lake District, May 2011 after her second course.
Thank you for a most enjoyable course. I had a great time. I always have high expectations of your courses and, as usual, you managed to raise the bar yet again.
MARY RYAN, Yorkshire Dales, July 2011 after her fourth course.
In simple terms, what made the course so special was your enthusiasm, your willingness to freely impart your knowledge and advice. Plus the respect, patience and understanding you showed to us all.
STEVE WALKER, Northumberland, June 2011 after his second course.
Just to say thank you for helping us to have such a wonderful time in the Lake District. I learned a lot last year in the Dales, but have learned just as much again in the Lake District, not just about how clever you are at finding destinations suitable for the weather on the day, but also about looking for - and hopefully finding - subjects to photograph and how to execute the find!
DIANA GAMBLE, Lake District, May 2011 after her second course.
The structure of the course works very well. Your printed and mounted photographs available to view during the course are an inspiration and show case what can be achieved from a variety of locations, subjects and conditions.
JAMES GOODCHILD, Northumberland, March 2011 after his third course.
Many thanks for an excellent few days and all your guidance and patience. Great company, interesting locations and good food, as always.
ANDREW LEANEY, Northumberland, March 2011 after his fourth course.
I felt that I learned so much. I'm now completely comfortable using manual exposure and love that I can now use and understand the histogram. I also feel that I am really 'seeing' the landscape now, not just the bigger vista picture but the smaller details too - it really is a revelation. I really learned more than I thought I would and in a relaxed and informal manner. I did do some comparing of prices of various photo courses on the internet and this was about middle price. However, your website was the best and most detailed about course content, the small group size and lots of getting out on locations and that you said you are there helping us rather than doing your own photography, all contributed to why I picked you.
NICKY MOORE, Northumberland, March 2011 after her first course.
You have a wonderful knack of being able to raise my self-confidence in landscape photography and inspire me to keeping trying to take better photographs. Thanks to you I have a much deeper appreciation of the need to spend more time in composing a photograph that captures what the landscape is telling me and not just a record of a day out.
ALASTAIR RATCLIFFE, Northumberland, March 2011 after his third course.
I really enjoyed the course and also had a wonderful break from work. I learned so much, but two particular lessons for me were: first, the beauty in the small subjects - not just the big vistas, I don't think I have every really taken the time to look before. Second was seeing you at work: how you turned my ordinary shot at Rumbling Kern into the extraordinary by repositioning and making the picture.
SAM STEELE, Northumberland, March 2011 after her first course.
Thanks for yet another fantastic course. I had a great time and learned a heck of a lot. I really feel keen to get out as much as possible and make some pictures and this is due partially to seeing the pictures made by the rest of the group during our time away, but mostly due to your excellent and inspiring tuition. Without question, I look forward to seeing you on future courses.
DAVID CONNOLLY, Lake District, February 2011 after his second course.
I really liked the pace, the style, the personal attention. Permission to be one's own photographer. The reviews of the photographs we made, the library of landscape photography books and the encouragement. The tution was spot on.
NIGEL LADKIN, Lake District, February 2011 after his second course.
Just want to say a very big thank you for a most wonderful time. It was hard with the weather, but you kept us all motivated and keen and pushed us all into making some great shots! You work so very hard and have such patience and enthusiasm. The days we had together will be with me for a very long time, to inspire and motivate me.
KATRINA BRAYSHAW, Ullapool, February 2011 after her third course.

I learned on this workshop the reason why Garry Brannigan's courses are booked up so far in advance...it is because he is a great workshop leader. The days are full and very instructive and Garry spends a great deal of time working one-to-one with each of the five photographers.
PHIL CORLEY, Yorkshire Dales May 2010 after his first course.
Given the expertise of the leader Garry Brannigan, the full day program, individual attention to each photographer and the well-chosen locations and accommodation - then The Digital Dawn is simply the best value for money anywhere. Please quote me!
BRIAN GREENWAY, Lake District May 2010 after his third course.
Because of the very full days, the course was really good value for money. And the learning does not finish out on location, it continues after sunset and over meals. You really do give it your all Garry and I admire and appreciate your commitment to making the whole experience so special.
JILL EASTHAM, Torridon March 2010 after her fourth course.
Thank you for such an enjoyable course. For you to have inspired so much creativity in me despite the best efforts of the weather is nothing short of miraculous. I have discovered a whole new way of looking at my photography and can't wait to develop my technique. If I could, I would join you on another course tomorrow! Thank you once again for such a wonderful experience.
RICHARD BRYANT, Yorkshire Dales July 2010 after his first course.
I like your courses because, more than any other tutor, you really slow me down and make me think about the location and what it is that I want to capture.
SHELAGH WOOSTER, Ullapool February 2010 after her fifth course.
Thank you so much for another great week and for all your patience and encouragement. I really enjoyed everything about it. My annual Digital Dawn "fix" always inspires me and moves me on every time, so it's important to me to keep joining the courses as I know I'll always come away having learned something new.
ELEANOR COATE, Lake District May 2010 after her fourth course.
Thank you for the excellent course in Northumberland. I enjoyed every minute of it. I think your personal style works to perfection. I learned so much and you have really inspired me again. I am looking forward to my next course with you - if I can find a place. Now I know why they are booked up so quickly!
PETER LEWIS Northumberland March 2010 after his second course.
Considering the amount of time we were out on location and the detail of the tuition, both in general conversation and one-to-one, this course was a bargain.
GORDON GIBBONS, Torridon March 2010 after his fourth course.
Books and DVDs had left me exasperated and had created more confusion than clarity, so I appreciated your commonsense understanding and clear explanation of important matters. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and the way the teaching was based upon the needs of each individual as opposed to a generic plan for all. Thank you for an introduction to grown-up photography. The course was worth every penny.
RAY BROWN, Northumberland March 2010 after his first course.
If proof were needed of what good value your courses are, I'm returning for my fourth in Torridon next year!
RACHEL McCANN, Ullapool February 2010 after her third course.
I really like the relaxed, yet very well organised and expert way you give us your general input and then focus it to meet everyone's individual needs. Supper at Brunton House was also a real sociable occasion with great home cooking. There is still so much to enjoy and explore that I would do the Northumberland course again. It was definitely value for money.
ROSIE MATHISEN, Northumberland June 2010 after her second course.
The tuition was excellent and very focused on what the individual needed. This was only really possible as Garry didn't take photographs himself but spent his time moving from person to person and spending quality time with each of us. He is very open and honest and also very passionate about what he does. The vast collection of his photographs (all printed and matted) really helped get his points across. This approach created an excellent group dynamic that was fun and very enjoyable to be part of.
PHIL CORLEY, Yorkshire Dales May 2010 after his first course.
The cost may be a little more than some courses, but my expectations of higher quality and individual attention were met in full.
JEAN EWING, Northumberland March 2010 after her first course.
Thank you very much for a very enjoyable and informative course. My understanding of the subject is much better now. The print went down very well with the family and a trip to the local framers is in the offing. I certainly hope to attend another course in the future, Torridon being the ideal although all the others look good too. Thanks again, I had a great time.
TIM NEEDHAM, Yorkshire Dales July 2010 after his first course.
I think the Torridon course was even better than previous courses. The three locations each day gave me much more time to explore areas and find those photographs that have a personal meaning. So I cannot think of anything that I would change - I just want more opportunities in these fantastic locations you find!
JILL EASTHAM, Torridon March 2010 after her fourth course.
The one-to-one coaching was excellent and the technical tuition involving use and manipulation of histograms, computer processing, setting up colour monitors and use of Photoshop was put across in a very clear and understandable way.
DAVID FARRAR, Lake District May 2010 after his first course.
The intimate group size creates a relaxed atmosphere, more akin to a group of individuals with a shared passion for photography rather than a course. The amount of time you are able to spend with individuals is superb and your enthusiasm and promotion of self expression in our photography is a joy.
MATTHEW VICKERS, Northumberland March 2010 after his first course.
I like the fact that at some point every day I will get one-to-one tuition, not just a quick five minutes, but some quality time. I also like your patient approach in that you get me to think about what am I trying to achieve and then giving, if necessary, some advice, both technical and compositional, on how I might achieve that. The locations were superb too, you had obviously researched the area very well.
NORMAN ROBERTSON, Ullapool February 2010 after his second course
The Kinlochewe Hotel was a charming place to stay - comfortable, friendly, superb food.
GORDON GIBBONS, Torridon March 2010 after his fourth course.
I want to say how much I enjoyed the workshop last week. I particularly enjoyed the atmosphere in which we set about our task and it is a great credit to you for the way you arranged the workshop. I also enjoyed the accommodation and home cooking at Brunton House very much.
ROD ARMSTRONG, Northumberland June 2010 after his first course.
The time and thought you put into your courses shines through, particularly your knowledge of the area and how to make the most of the location regardless of the conditions. I've been on three Digital Dawn courses now and your style of tuition and advice always seems to inspire the best in my photography.
RACHEL McCANN, Ullapool February 2010 after her third course.
The course was extremely enjoyable. Your experience in selecting the locations and your ability to communicate your knowledge and enthusiasm to me was exactly what I wanted.
ROGER PRINGLE, Lake District May 2010 after his second course.
I loved the locations, even the one where we tramped through snow and didn't get a picture, it was an adventure which I would not do on my own.
SHELAGH WOOSTER, Ullapool February 2010 after her fifth course.
The workshop was a treat on so many levels. I have already purchased a printer and updated software and I'm very pleased with some of the results. It was a very worthwhile trip for me and thank you so much for imparting your knowledge.
LOU BRAY, Yorkshire Dales weekend workshop July 2010 after her third course.
Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed the workshop at the weekend. It's easy to see why you have so many people who return on subsequent courses! The big positives for me were the support you gave all of us and then your ability to gently guide and give feedback on the results in a way that was always very constructive.
ADRIAN HAZELDINE, Yorkshire Dales weekend workshop July 2010 after his first course.
The course was excellent. Although it wasn't cheap, it was definitely value for money.
STEVE BOTTERILL, Lake District May 2010 after his first course.
The content of the course was exceptional. I liked the easy informality and the tuition was helpful and to the point which allowed us to learn at our own pace. The accommodation and food was of a good standard too.
PAUL CROFT, Lake District May 2010 after his second course.
The course was very much value for money, from the moment I stepped in the door at Brunton House all my needs were catered for, there were no hidden extras. Great accommodation, fantastic meals and engaging tuition.
MATTHEW VICKERS, Northumberland March 2010 after his second course.
Thank you for a very enjoyable and stimulating course, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've learned so much, and gained great inspiration.
KARNIK SADOURIAN, Lake District May 2010 after his second course.
It would be hard to better the locations we were taken to. The temptation when faced with so many locations of such potential was to rush from one to the next, but that would have been a waste. Having the time to explore, or just to sit and soak it in, in such places was a treat to be savoured.
GORDON GIBBONS, Torridon March 2010 after his fourth course.
The course was excellent value for money. Not a moment was wasted and the tuition was superb. I don't think it's expensive given the very good accommodation and food plus the long hours of tuition we are given.
ELEANOR COATE, Lake District May 2010 after her fourth course
I liked the flow of instruction covering the complete process from visualising an image, getting it in the camera in a form which makes it as print friendly as possible and then taking that image from the camera through the computer and on to paper. This was for me the real winning formula for this course and has taken my understanding to a new level. The critique and review of the individuals' photographs was instructive and helped me determine what to look for in a good shot.
DAVID FARRAR, Lake District May 2010 after his first course.
The accommodation was very good, the meals excellent and the owners were charming hosts. It felt more like staying with friends rather than in a B&B.
NORMAN ROBERTSON, Ullapool February 2010 after his second course.
